Children attending prep at Childers State School will be engaged daily in a rich program of different play and fun learning experiences. There will also be times when the children are engaged in focussed teaching times as part of whole class activities (eg story time, counting, music etc) or in small groups for specific learning games. The activities that the children do participate in will be both teacher-planned and child initiated, and will follow the Early Years Curriculum Guidelines. These guidelines build on the learning experiences of each child in the areas of Social and Personal Learning, Health and Physical Learning, Language Learning and Communication, Early Mathematical Understandings and Active Learning Processes. They also provide a foundation for the Key Learning Areas in Years 1 to 10.
A typical prep day will include some outside play (weather permitting), inside play, language activities, music activities and a variety of other learning experiences. Students will also participate in weekly music, physical education and library lessons with the school's specialist teachers. Through these activities children will develop their gross and fine motor skills, their early number and letter concepts, and they will be encouraged to use their thinking and reasoning skills as they explore the world around them. Enrolment packages for prep are available from the school office.
