German Club
LOTE learning has continued with a bang at Childers State School and 27 students have signed up for German Club. German Club is being held after school on Tuesday afternoons. It is for those students in years 4 to 7 wishing to develop their understanding of the cultural aspects of learning German, and of Germany and other German speaking countries, by taking part in arts and crafts, dancing, cooking, singing and sporting activities. Currently, it is the ‘Fifth Season’ or ‘Karneval’ in Germany and this month’s German Club theme revolves around this great celebration.
In the first meeting of the German Club the students used traditional motives to make Fensterbilder (window pictures). The students either cut out pieces of white card and coloured them, or traced the shapes onto coloured card and cut them out. Once these had been cut out they were glued together and decorated to make Viennese masks, a crying clown, a dancing girl or an ugly one-toothed man. The students involved had a great time and are looking forward to the next activity.

German Club makes traditional Easter eggs.

Did you know that the Easter Bunny seems to have originated in Germany? It was first mentioned in Germany the 16th century. The first edible bunny, made of sugared pastry, appeared in Germany in the 1800s. Another German tradition is to blow and decorate eggs, placing them on an Easter tree.

Over the last two weeks, the students at German Club have been dying and painting eggs. The first thing the students did, was blow their eggs at home to make sure there was no egg yolk and white left inside. Then they were washed and dried.
At German Club, the students dyed their eggs.

There were four colours to choose from, red, green, blue and yellow.

Then we dried the eggs.

Once the eggs were dried they were painted.

The students took some of their eggs home and left one for the Easter tree in Frau Horner's classroom.
