In recent weeks, students in Year 3S and 2/3J have been very busy with kitchen science activities. We have followed procedures to investigate melting ice, dancing sultanas, inflating balloons an easy way and how towers of sugar cubes change. Apart from just having fun, there has also been lots of literacy learning happening and we are now writing up our procedures so that other children in the class could try the activities. In addition, we have been observing our bean seeds germinate and measuring their progress. This week we have designed some investigations to find what happens when you change one thing that plants need to grow. We are eagerly awaiting these results to see, for example, if feeding your seeds mango nectar, apple juice, milk or soft drink instead of water changes the way they germinate.

Recently the Childers SS P&C presented the school with a brand new double bass to further enhance our instrumental music strings program.
The strings program is currently very strong with over 40 students participating. Our thanks go to the P&C for this generous donation. |
